Limited edition BMW M3 CS 2024 revealed with 543 horsepower

The BMW M division celebrated its 50th anniversary last year by launching several new models, one of which was the hardcore M4 CSL.

There is no similarly heavyweight version of the M3, which perhaps leaves fans of the more pragmatic purebred M series a bit sour. Turns out they just need to be patient, as BMW M on Tuesday unveiled a new M3 CS for the 2024 model year.

The CS cars fill the gap between the Competition class and the heavyweight CSL. They enhance performance through conventional means with more power and less weight, and this is true of the latest M3 CS. The car is confirmed to have the same 543 horsepower as the M4 CSL, powered by BMW M’s familiar 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six. The performance boost on 503 hp of the M3 Competition thanks to the extra pressure and tweaks to the ECU.

The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, and at maximum performance will deliver a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 188 miles. / hour. The all-wheel drive system, a unique setup from the BMW M, uses a multi-disc clutch to transmit torque between the axles. The system has a rear deflection and the 4WD Sport mode can further enhance this deflection. If the driver wants the classic rear-wheel drive feel, there’s also the option of sending all drive torque to the rear wheels only.

Additional chassis modifications include aluminum braces for increased rigidity, upgraded brakes (available with carbon ceramic rotors) and a unique tuning of the stability control system, camber of the vehicle. wheels, dampers and anti-roll bars, all aimed at enhancing track performance. The wheels can be ordered in gold or matte black, and measure 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear. The wheels come with standard performance tires, but buyers can fit race-ready Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires as a free option. In each case, the tires measure 275/35 at the front and 285/30 at the rear.

To reduce weight, BMW M engineers used lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic for the hood, roof, front splitter, front air intakes, rearview mirror caps and rear spoiler. Carbon details are also used throughout the cabin, including the standard bucket seats which are also upholstered in Merino leather. A titanium muffler completes the list of weight-saving modes that all add up to about 75 pounds. However, the stated curb weight is still about 3,915 pounds.

Also inside is the newly introduced dash on the 3-Series range for 2023. It removes the traditional instrument cluster cover, leaving a 12.3-inch floating display for the instrument cluster combined with a second 14.9-inch floating display for the infotainment center. Both monitors have an M-specific display in the M3 CS.

Also fitted as standard is M Drive Professional, a package that includes both M Drift Analyzer and M Laptimer for recording drives for later evaluation. M Drive Professional also includes M Traction Control, which allows the driver to adjust traction control between 10 settings, and the M Mode drive selector, which has Road, Sport and Track options.

The M3 CS 2024 is confirmed to be a limited edition — though, the BMW M hasn’t said a limited number — and will launch later this year with a starting price of $119,695, including a $995 destination fee.
