Lego has announced its next car version, the Nissan Skyline GT-R from “2 fast 2 angry.” This 319-piece set is part of the Speed Champions series, Lego’s line of officially licensed car kits.
Like the car used in the movie, this set is based on the R34 generation Nissan Skyline, built between 1999 and 2002. Lego’s version does a pretty good job of depicting the actual JDM supercar. It’s instantly recognizable as an R34, especially with the iconic squarish headlights and staggered taillights. Overall, this is one of Lego’s more accurate adaptations to low-res plastic brick media.
In addition to the base car, both the film and the plastic car have 6 spokes after-sales wheel, one tights, and giant wings on the trunk. There’s even a bottle of nitrous oxide in the passenger seat. The set also comes with a figure of Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner, the cop who turns the series’ street racer into the protagonist of the secret agent.
Lego has provided other visual car kits, such as James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5the “The spectre” Ecto-1and “Back to the Future” DeLorean. They also did Dodge Charger 1969 from the original”Fast and furious” installment. Many of these were sold in both smaller sets in Speed Champion Seriesand as larger standalone kits.
In 2019 one R35 Nissan GT-R Nismo became the first Japanese car to be licensed by Lego. They haven’t done much with the relationship with Nissan since then (Datsun 240Z, anyone?). While the combo movie helps with marketing, we wanted to see the regular Skyline GT-R set without the Y2K era graphics. However, it is a good addition to many escort ship, McLarens and lamborghini they’ve done. The Skyline GT-R will go on sale in January 2023.
