Leather Blazer Season Is Nearly Upon Us
Over the past few years, leather jackets have gone from a non-grata garment – a staple since the 1990s – to a foray into sleek, chic style. A dripping Adam Sandler make the case for it in Uncut Gems. The look features key collaboration cues from Balenciaga designer Demna Gvasalia and Kanye West – devotee of leather jackets. Even Jack Harlow show to the MTV Video Music Awards last week in one. The leather jacket has somehow become perhaps the contemporary apparel best — and that’s unlikely to change any time soon. The latest collections from some of the most coveted labels, from Supreme to Aimé Leon Dore to Bottega Veneta, show that leather jackets are not going anywhere this fall.
Streetwear juggernaut Supreme has continuously released high-level eventincluding collaborations with classics like Brooks Brothers and hardcore menswear designers like Adam Kimmel. The brand’s latest collection includes a two-button sheepskin coat with interesting knurled lapels. For her part, Aimé Leon Dore produced a regal two-piece shirt in a cozy shade of chestnut brown. When it comes to brands with demands at their fingertips for how men want to dress in 2022, it’s hard to beat Supreme and Aimé Leon Dore’s collaboration either.
Elsewhere, leather jackets can be found both high and low. Bottega Veneta has one with curved sleeves in deep, dark blue calfskin. Gucci’s version embossed with a popular soundtrack of the house’s famous “GG” monogram, while Marni provides one with a sleeker, more minimalist design. (Know the prices for yourself: these range in price from $2,700 to $7,000.) You can also find a look at the menswear label in Los Angeles Second/Layer or the Swedish retailer COS with middle price $390 and $900. And of course, you can always find them old thing for a fraction of the price.
For many men, leather jackets can feel like a daunting proposition. Sure, Anthony Bourdain made it look easy, but he made most things look pretty easy. GQ’s Sam Hine personally shook hands a journey for a leather jacket to call my own last year and find this garment surprisingly versatile. “I wear it with whatever I would normally wear with a normal leather jacket — t-shirts, western shirts, sweaters, soccer jerseys, whatever,” he says. Maybe that’s the key: treat it like any other coat in your closet.
Put on some skin sartorial is a way to instantly give bold, left-centered style to your outfit. Wear it with some great trousers and a cashmere sweater and your fit will only be a little dangerous. You don’t have to wear it with matching leather pants at all. (Unless it’s your thing, then let your monstrous flag fly.) The leather jacket is flashy enough to top it off if you want to, but it can also look pretty sophisticated if That’s your speed. When the chill of autumn looms around, consider a leather jacket – you’ll be pleasantly surprised how easy it can be to put on one of these styles.
