Nicholas Latifi will leave the Williams Formula 1 team at the end of the 2022 season, when his current contract ends.
The team says a replacement will be announced at a later date.
His teammate, Alex Albon, will continue with the team in 2023 and beyond sign contract extension in August.
Williams was the team with which Latifi made his F1 debut in 2020, although the Canadian man failed to make much of an impression in the following years, scoring just seven points in 55 starts.
This became much clearer in early September at Italian Grand Prix where Williams’ reserve driver Nyck de Vries fills in an ailing Albon, having scored two points in his first race. Latifi is yet to score with most of the season behind him.
The stellar performance means de Vries is now a favorite for Latifi’s chair, although Williams has other options. The list includes American driver Logan Sargeant, who belongs to the Williams Driving Academy and currently competes in Formula 2. There is also Daniel Ricciardo, who also competes in Formula 2. leaving McLaren at the end of 2022 and have yet to sign with another team. Oscar Piastri will take the seat of Ricciardo at McLaren.
Alpine still has no replacement for Fernando Alonso, who next season will join Aston Martin as an alternative to Retired Sebastian Vettel. Meanwhile, AlphaTauri announced on Thursday that current driver Yuki Tsunoda will stay with the team in 2023. Pierre Gasly will also continue with AlphaTauri for the new season.
