Koulibaly reveals which Chelsea star played a key role in Stamford Bridge’s transformation
Kalidou Koulibaly has revealed which Chelsea star played a key role in his departure from Napoli for west London.
Todd Boehly had two big summer signings for the Blues. Chelsea have signed Raheem Sterling from Premier League rivals Manchester City.
This was followed by the west Londoners agreeing to a deal with Napoli for Serie A star Kalidou Koulibaly.
Koulibaly has been signed for a reported fee of almost 40 million euros, which is quite a lot given that he is 31 years old.
However, Chelsea are in dire need of some quality in the backline to enter the new season following the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.
And Koulibaly, who has dominated Serie A for many years, is sure to bring that back to Chelsea this time around.
Now, in an interview for his new club, Koulibaly has detailed how his former Napoli team-mate Jorginho played a key role in his move to Stamford. Bridges:
“Jorgi actually texted me and asked if I wanted to go to Chelsea!” Koulibaly told the club’s website when reflecting on his path to Stamford Bridge.
“At the time, I wasn’t sure if they wanted me but of course, I said I would come with pleasure. It’s the same with Edou [Mendy], he asked me questions and I told him it’s done and I’ll see him soon! “Now that I am here, I am truly happy to begin this exciting journey. The squad looks great with a good mix of younger players and those with more experience. “
