Kendall Jenner could add a sake master to her resume.
The model and reality TV star helped celebrity chef and restaurateur Nobu Matsuhisa reboot Nobu Dubai at The Atlantis Palm on Friday night, performing the traditional Japanese ritual of “kagami biraki,” during where a person opens the lid of a sake barrel to signify good luck and harmony.
The Japanese Taiko drummers started the event to get the crowd ahead of the ceremony.
“Thanks for coming. I would like to introduce my humble traditions from Japanese culture,” Matsuhisa told attendees. “Today is a special day. I want to celebrate with you all. Join the party!”
Jenner, in a bright green dress and knee-high black leather boots, matched with long black gloves, along with Matsuhisa and Nobu co-founder Meir Teper, grabbing a mallet wooden to open the lid of sake. Celebrity guests — including singer Liam Payne, actress Nia Long and cast from Bravo’s The The real housewives of Dubai and Netflix Brilliant Dubai — journalists, influencers and activists watched and cheered, then drank down the traditional masu cups.
Nobu Dubai, open to the public on Mondays, features a reimagined menu and views of Palm Island and the Arabian Gulf.
