Karnataka: Technical glitch in 108 ambulance call center will be rectified soon, says health minister


Karnataka’s 108 Ambulance Service Center experienced technical problems on Sunday. Health Minister, Dr K Sudhakar announced that measures are being taken to remedy the problem.

He added that there is no need to worry as alternative steps have been taken to ensure uninterrupted service and restore normal system operation.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Sudhakar said, “There are some problems in the hardware and GVK-EMRI company is handling the contract and it is being fixed. Since the system is 15 years old, it is vulnerable to malware.. has resolved the motherboard problem.. Secretary of the Principal chaired a video conference with all district officials to ensure that ambulance services are not available. Calls are currently being serviced normally, and 4-5 decentralized backup centers have also been established in each district.”

“The 108 switchboard has a system that allocates an ambulance within 2 minutes through an automated system. Due to a technical problem, the turnaround time has now been increased to 6-7 minutes. Since this is an emergency and The backup server for essential services has been installed. Although it was a technical problem, I sincerely apologize for the service interruption. However, the district health department took the initiative to work. to quickly come up with a backup plan, to ensure that the service is not hindered,” the minister said.

While talking about the measures taken to tackle this issue, the Minister said, “Hospitals have been instructed to give the top priority for referrals between facilities. Ambulance drivers are also given priority. request to answer calls to their personal mobile number by manual ID creation Manpower at 112 call centers has been increased from the current 2-3 call centers to 7-8 call centers and calls to 108 are being redirected to 112 for manual ID generation. We are also using 104 call centers to offload the 108 call centers. The minister said we are also dealing with missed calls”.

Health Minister Karnataka also said that the current provider’s service was unsatisfactory and a new tender was floated.

“The services of GVK, now a supplier, are not satisfied. However, the issue is biased and we have launched a new tender by court order. We can expect the new offering with enhanced services within a month. The new service will have the latest technical features and will be a nationwide prototype,” said Dr. Sudhakar.

Responding to Opposition Leader (LoP) Siddaramiah’s comment that corruption is the main reason for the Ambulance problem, the Minister said, “Siddaramaiah doesn’t understand technical issues. He has to understand the matter. before commenting. Things should not be viewed through a political lens.”

The BJP leader also attacked Congress for “targeting certain communities”.

“Parliament has always targeted the Lingayat community. They deposed Veerendra Patil from the position of CM who won 173 seats. They did not allow Kenal Hanumantaiah to inaugurate Vidhanasoudha who built it. They didn’t even oppose it. treat SM Krishna with respect, who has managed well. Congress is deliberately targeting certain communities,” said Dr. Sudhakar.
