Kansas City girl beats leukemia, fulfills her wish for subway charities

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Elaina Guerra spent Wednesday setting an example we can all learn from.

What would a typical 8-year-old girl wish for? A trip to Disney? Maybe a day on the beach or one last playhouse in the backyard?

Elaina, a leukemia survivor, has bigger dreams, only she is the one to make them come true.

Make-A-Wish is used to make wishes that focus on “have/go/meet”.

“Give” was a single request, but it was what Elaina wanted.

Susana Guerra, Elaina’s mother, said she was initially surprised by her daughter’s wishes. Father Nick Guerra says:

“A truly proud moment and at the same time, are you sure?” he say.

Elaina tells Make-A-Wish that she has health and family, everything she needs. So she made an altruistic wish.

“She kept saying, ‘I just wanted to pass on love, hope and faith,’” Susana recalls.

For months, people from across the Midwest have donated to meet a variety of needs. And Elaina arranged for them to be distributed among 15 charities in the Kansas City metro area.

“I just love helping people and when I do, it makes me happy,” she said.

Wednesday is far from coming. Elaine granted her first wish three years ago. Now happy and healthy, Elaina is awaiting signs of five years of remission.

And her greater desire? To inspire others to give, not just today, but in life.
