Kambosos says he will “stripping” Haney’s career
Via Dan Ambrose: United lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr said he will “deprive” Devin Haney of his WBC title and “career” on June 5 when they meet for the undisputed championship at the Stadium. Marvel campaign in Melbourne, Australia.
Kambosos Jr. (20-0, 10 KOs) says June 5 can’t get here fast enough because he wants to beat Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) for “half” of the WBC lightweight title to earn . the right to claim to be the undisputed champion of the tournament.
Despite missing the final piece in the puzzle with the WBC strap, Kambosos Jr. still describes himself as the “undisputed champion” at lightweight. Technically, however, he lacks one more title to claim that prestigious achievement.
But like the champion before him, Teofimo Lopez, Kambosos still says he is the undisputed champion. Sure, it’s a bit odd, but Kambosos goes after Teofimo with extreme confidence, so it’s no surprise that he tweaked his credentials a bit.
“I’m the undisputed world champion, and I have all these gorgeous belts, but that’s not what it’s meant to be,” says George Kambosos Jr. “It’s about my legacy and love of sport and love of fighting. I love fighting.
“If Devin Haney walked through that door right now, I would fight now. Enter the ring, and we will fight now. That’s how I prepare well for these big battles.
“June 5 is just another day in my life. Every fight is my hardest fight. I understand that I am fighting the best of the best. Devin Haney is a good name, a big name in the boxing sport.
“He kept half of it, and I can’t wait to not just take it from him but to deprive him of his career as I have done with many previous opponents that I have met. The hardest fight? We’ll see June 5, but for me, I’m always focused and hungry for what I do best.
“I’m so excited that this will settle on the score for the belt he was bestowed with that he never had the joy of winning inside the rope,” Kambosos said of Haney.
“This is the perfect opponent. They talk about the ‘Four Kings’. Well, I beat the main guy in Teofimo Lopez. We all know that Lomachenko was supposed to happen, and that shows I’m the fighter type.
“Unfortunately, Lomachenko cannot be here. So give me the next best guy. I could have fought anyone. Haney is not my compulsion. I can fight anyone, but I want Devin Haney. Get this deal done, and we did. We have completed the deal; We got it over the line.
“We are here on June 5, not coming back. I just can’t wait because on June 5, it’s going to happen,” Kambosos said.
