Judge not homerless, still 60, Jays beat Yankees in 10th place


TORONTO (AP) – Aaron Judge stayed on 60 home runs, falling short of Roger Maris’ American League record, and the New York Yankees’ attempt to win the AL East stalled when Vladimir Guerrero Jr hit an RBI single in game 10. Toronto Blue Jays won 3-2 on Monday night.

Judge led the game with a single game, then beat twice and went twice as New York’s winning streak ended at seven. The Yankees will win the division.

Judge has now gone six games without a home run. He’ll try again on Tuesday night to match the AL 61 mark set by Maris in 1961. Judge’s batting average remains at 0.314 – he starts the day leading all three Triple Crown categories.

Clarke Schmidt’s Guerrero’s doubles single (5-5) scored automatic runner-up Cavan Biggio from second base. Toronto took its third straight win and increased its lead in the AL wild card race to 2 1/2 games against Tampa Bay.

Judge scored the opening goal of the game with Gleyber Torres’ first-half sacrificial flight, and entered the third round before being cleared in a doubles. Judge heads the search in the sixth and descends on the eighth.

Severino didn’t let a single shot happen until Bichette sang a solo to start the fourth round. Guerrero followed with a potential double to shorten, but Kiner-Falefa wobbled and threw in late first. Alejandro Kirk walked to load the base and Teoscar Hernández followed with a brace from the top of the center wall.

Rizzo and Torres hit a tit-for-tat single in the sixth round, but the Blue Jays’ right wing Kevin Gausman beat Josh Donaldson and Giancarlo Stanton.

Gausman allows two runs and six hits in 6 1/3 rounds. He scored seven, hit 200 for the second season in a row, and went one.

Toronto finished runners-up in first and second with one of seven but Jonathan Loaisiga came on and beat George Springer, then sent Bichette off.
