Via Dan Ambrose: Juan Manuel Marquez is picking Canelo Alvarez to beat Gennadiy Golovkin by knockout on September 17.
Marquez believes the undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) envisioned all of the 40-year-old Golovkin’s fighting style, and that he will fight him for a hit. He’s in the middle of the ring.
As Marquez pointed out, it wouldn’t be good for Canelo to lose to Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs), as he lost in his final match to WBA lightweight champion Dmitry Bivol on May 7.
Another setback for Canelo would be catastrophic for his career, and he has to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Although Marquez did not address the topic, it is important that Canelo win without controversy this time because of the perception from the boxing public that Golovkin was robbed in his first match against the Mexican star and was awarded the business again in the rematch when the umpire on hand scored it a win for Alvarez.
“People don’t always run with the same winning luck, but now I think he will win by knockout,“Marquez said to TV Boxeo with him predicting an injury-time win for Canelo Alvarez over Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17.
It will be difficult for Canelo to take down Golovkin because he doesn’t throw enough punches. Canelo tends to throw one shot at a time, and he breathes after expending his energy.
Such a fight would not be able to take down a boxer like Golovkin as he would be able to recover if injured.
“That was the driving force behind Canelo’s defeat against Bivol because one more loss for a boxer like him wouldn’t be good,” Marquez said.
Canelo is certainly concerned about not letting Golovkin beat him, but there’s nothing to be done about it if he hits him again like he did in the first two. The only thing Canelo can hope for is that the Nevada judges give him a defiant decision.
“In the second match against Golovkin, he showed that he can beat him in the center of the ring,” said Marquez. “During the second war, He’s found his style, and he’s going to beat him.“
“Canelo, for his pace, counter-attacks and combinations, so he [Golovkin] Marquez added.
