Jose Benavidez Sr is angry at Canelo for not hitting his son, David
Via Brian Webber: Jose Benavidez Sr looks like he’s ready to be knocked down out of anger at Canelo Alvarez for choosing not to take on his talented son, two-time WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez.
This week, Benavidez Sr received some bad news after Canelo informed the media that he would not be fighting Mexican boxers.
Although the 25-year-old Benavidez (26-0.23 KO) is technically an American, since he was born in Arizona, his ancestry is Mexican. For Canelo, that may be enough to permanently disqualify Benavidez as a potential future competitor.
“I think GGG is a bit older, but despite that, I think it will be a good match. It won’t be like the last two games, but it’s a good one,” said Jose Benavidez Sr. ESNEWS about the Canelo Alvarez trilogy vs. Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17.
“He was born in Arizona, so I think that makes him American,” said Jose Sr., when asked if David Benavidez is Mexican. “Here you are. Canelo can fight him because he’s not Mexican. He can fight him.
“Come on, that will never happen. I think Canelo and Eddy Reynoso, they have to develop some balls. I’m tired of all of this. Now, he says if Zurdo Ramirez wins [against Dmitry Bivol]he is [Canelo] won’t fight another Mexican.
“Champions have to fight anyone. They deserve a chance. David [Benavidez] won a knockout, and now he’s the WBC interim champion, and he still doesn’t want to fight him. What kind of *** is that? How can you call yourself a champion?
“He will never be like Julio Cesar Chavez. First of all, people don’t like him, especially since he’s avoiding the Mexican warriors. Who gives af *** about nationality? You fight the best.
“We’ll knock him out [Canelo] outside because David is stronger, David is younger, David is older. Look, Bivol, we’ve focused on Bivol. Bivol f**** he’s bad. He gave him a beating. I don’t know how he said he won that match.
“He was robbed. So stupid. Now he wants to fight Usyk. He will be taken to the doctor. This year and next, we plan to fight at 168, but we are ready to fight Bivol or Zurdo Ramirez. We will fight anyone,” Benavidez Sr said of his son David.
