The bus carrying pilgrims was returning from prayers at the holy site of the Western Wall. The site is one of the holiest in Judaism and thousands of people go there to pray each year. The gunman targeted a bus and a car.

Israeli police forces were dispatched to the scene to investigate. In addition, Israeli security forces entered the nearby Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan in pursuit of the suspected attacker.

The bus driver, Daniel Kanievsky, later told local media that he was fully in at the time of the shooting.

The shooting came a week after 49 people were killed. Israeli Forces target Palestinian militia leaders in the Gaza Strip with airstrikes. The strike even killed several civilians, including 17 children.

The militants also fired hundreds of rockets at Israel, resulting in casualties in Israel but the number was not shared by the Israeli government.
