IPPB introduces maintenance charges and reissuance fees for virtual debit cards


India Postal Settlement Bank (IPPB) is a limited company wholly owned by the Department of Posts of the government of India, a division of the Ministry of Communications. To improve digital payments nationwide, IPPB offers a RuPay Virtual Debit Card, which customers can sign up for using their IPPB mobile banking app. Customers can specify their own daily limit using the IPPB RuPay Virtual Debit Card and the card is accepted on any RuPay-equipped commerce or e-commerce portal. Cardholders will get attractive e-commerce transactions, cashback on utility bills, amazing discounts etc and the card can be fully managed through the IPPB Mobile Banking App.

The card has a minimum daily purchase limit of 1 and the maximum limit is 50,000 for e-commerce purchases. The IPPB RuPay virtual debit card has an issuance fee of Rs. 25 (including GST/CESS) and IPPB do not charge transaction fees or blocking/unblocking fees. Previously, IPPB did not charge any fee for card reissuance, but as of June 15, 2022, IPPB has implemented the annual maintenance fee of 25 and the renewal fee of 25 includes GST on a virtual debit card (VDC). “This is to inform all concerned that the annual maintenance fee of 25 (including GST) and the reissue fee is 25 (including GST) on Virtual Debit Card (VDC) will be applied on 15 July 2022,” the IPPB said in an official statement.

IPPB offers a total monthly transaction limit of Rs. 10,000 toward bill payments, in-store merchant payments, and authorized Postal Savings Services and Programs payments to Digital Savings Account holders. According to the IPPB FAQ section, “The IPPB Virtual Card is a Digital Debit Card, which can be used for e-commerce (online) transactions. Card can be used for online shopping at any merchant site/online portal in India that accepts RuPay Card, without any difference from regular Plastic Card. “Customers who have access to the IPPB Mobile Banking App can use the Virtual Debit Card service. One Virtual Debit Card can be created for each account type and the Virtual Debit Card will not be provided to minors under the age of ten, subject to the terms and conditions of the Postal Settlement Bank of India.
