IPL 2023: Sunil Gavaskar trolled for trying to teach Naveen-ul-Haq how to celebrate after holding a racket

Afghan speedrunner Naveen-ul-Haq emerged as the star of the show during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 knockout round, wowing fans with his impressive bowling performances. that. Representing the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against the formidable Mumbai Indians (MI) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Naveen received much-deserved praise for his outstanding performance.

Naveen’s exceptional bowling skills proved to be a game changer as he won a total of four shots, ultimately tilting the game in his team’s favor. His stellar performance limited the Mumbai Indians to a modest 182/8 in their allotted 20 rounds.

However, Sunil Gavaskar expressed concern about Naveen’s behavior towards the crowd, while stressing the need for a more respectful celebration. Gavaskar stresses that – when a player catches the ball or scores a record goal, it’s important to acknowledge the applause and avoid any disrespectful gestures like covering your ears.

He stressed the importance of celebrating in a more dignified manner, suggesting players should put their hands over their ears and greet the audience rather than engage in provocations. Gavaskar made it clear that this is his personal view.

“Listen to the applause, put your hand behind your ear and say ‘hello, can I hear you now?’ That’s how the celebration should go. By the way, I’ve been saying this since long time ago,” Gavaskar added.

However, his comments on the matter received a backlash on Twitter, with many expressing outrage at his remarks. Many people remind Sunny Gavaskar of how Naveen is following in the footsteps of his captain, KL Rahul.

After firing Mumbai’s captain Rohit Sharma, the speed driver released a unique gesture, reminiscent of Rahul’s iconic celebration of the century, covering his ears with his fingers and adjusting his collar.

“Sunny Gavaskar should stop commenting if he doesn’t understand Naveen’s celebration,” wrote one user while another wrote that Gavaskar “didn’t make sense of Naveen’s celebration”.

“Sunil gavaskar is trolling people who chanted kohli kohli in previous matches while commenting on naveen ul haq celebration,” another Twitter user wrote.

One Twitter user mentioned one of Gavaskar’s earlier comments, “Sunil Gavaskar has no business saying how Naveen-Ul-Haq should celebrate. Crowds haven’t taken it easy on him and he’s giving it back. (I think it was Sunil Gavaskar who said this).”
