Injured Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma ruled out second test against Bangladesh

The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Tuesday that cricket captain Rohit Sharma will miss his second test against Bangladesh following his injury. Fast pitcher Navdeep Saini has also been disqualified from the second test against Bangladesh, the cricket board of India said.

Rohit Sharma missed India’s 188-run win in the first test against Bangladesh after suffering a thumb hit in the previous ODI series.

In a statement, BCCI said: “The medical team considers that the injury needs more time to fully recover before the Indian captain can play at full strength. He will continue his rehabilitation and will not be available for the second and final match against Bangladesh.”

The Cricket Board of India said Navdeep Saini had also been disqualified from the second test because he had strained his abdominal muscles. The BCCI said: “Navdeep Saini was also excluded from the second examination due to abdominal strain.

KL Rahul, who commanded India in the first test, will continue as reserve captain.

The second test starts on Thursday in Mirpur.

India’s squad for the second test against Bangladesh includes KL Rahul (captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, KS Bharat, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Saurabh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat.
