Indonesian woman faked her own death to avoid a debt of $265.85

An Indonesian woman is accused of faking her death to avoid debt. According to Mothership.SG, the woman identified as Liza Dewi Pramita owes another woman 22 thousand rupees. The amount is equivalent to $265.86 US dollars.

According to the source, the creditor’s name is Maya Gunawan. Gunawan allegedly contacted Pramita through an online social group. After consulting his friends about Pramita, Gunawan decided to lend the woman the money. And request repayment before 11/20.

Construction project

Pramita was said to be unable to repay the loan on that date and requested an extension of the deadline to December 6, as reported by the Daily Star.

A few days later, with the debt still unpaid, Gunawan logged into Facebook. And saw a post from Pramita’s daughter, alleging her mother was killed in a car crash. The Facebook post added that Pramita will be buried in the city of Banda Aceh, 570 miles from her home in Medan, North Sumatra.

The post also included a photo of Pramita’s “corpse” wrapped in a “shroud” with her eyes closed. Like the photo of a stretcher being pushed into a hospital. According to the New York Post, the photo of the stretcher is “a screen shot of a TV show.”

Pramita’s daughter later admitted that the Facebook post was a lie. And added that her mother hacked her Facebook account to share false news.

Gunawan’s doubts

According to Indonesia Post English, Maya Gunawan did not believe the news at first. And was skeptical about the Facebook post, which, she said, was uploaded with specific privacy about who could see it.

There are many strange things. So at that time, I don’t understand why I didn’t believe it right away… it takes family and friends to comment. This does not exist at all, the status is private for some viewers.

Gunawan did not contact police, according to the outlet’s report. Instead, she is waiting for Pramita to pay the amount. Although the woman, Gunawan said, “can’t be contacted at the moment.”
