Indian Railways revenue up 38% to Rs 95,486.58 till end of August | India News

NEW DELHI: Total Revenue of Indians Rail at the end of August 2022 was Rs 95,486.58, an increase of Rs 26,271.29 or 38% year-on-year, an official statement said on Sunday.
Revenue from passenger transport was Rs 25,276.54, up Rs 13,574.44 (116%) year-on-year.
Passenger traffic also increased year over year in both segments – pre-booked and non-reserved. The growth rate from long-distance mail express trains has been more pronounced than from passenger and suburban trains, the railway said.
Other training revenue stood at Rs 2,437.42, which is Rs 811.82 (50%) higher than the same period last year.
This is being driven by strong growth in the parcel segment of Indian Railways, the statement added.
Merchandise sales increased by Rs 10,780.03 (or 20%) to Rs 65,505.02 until the end of August this year.
This was achieved through a load increase of more than 58 tons and an 18% growth in real ton-kilometer kilometers (NTKM) during this period. Food grains, fertilizers, cement, mineral oil, container shipping and a balance of other commodity segments were important contributors to this growth, alongside coal shipments.
Grocery sales were Rs 2,267.60, an increase of Rs 1105 or 95% compared to the same period last year.
The railway’s total revenue for the entire last fiscal (2021-22) stood at Rs 1,91,278.29 crore.
