Indian chess players Pranav Anand, Ilamparthi win the title | Chess News

MAMAIA (Romania): of India Pranav Anand and AR Ilamparthi emerging champions in the Under-16 and Under-14 Open categories in World Junior Chess Championship here on friday.
Anand, the top seed, who on Thursday became the country’s 76th Grandmaster, scored nine points from 11 rounds to become the clear winner. He was half a point ahead of the rest of the field.
Anand’s compatriot M Pranesh, the second seed, finished third with eight points along with three others.
Anand remains unbeaten through 11 rounds and has seven wins along with four draws. He drew his 11th and final match against Droin Augustin of France after scoring against Emin Ohanyan of Armenia in the 10th round.
On the other hand, Pranesh recorded six wins and four draws. However, the defeat at the hands of Ohanyan in round 6 affected his championship chances.
Like Anand, Ilamparthi is more than the other half of the field with 9.5 points after 11 rounds. Despite losing to Artem Berin of Ukraine in the 4th round, he won nine matches and drew one to take the top prize.
During the Open under 18 event, Sohan Kamotra 14th place with 7 points while S Harshad (6.5 points) must be content with 24th place.
Among the girls, Mrittika Mallick 4th place in the women’s competition under 14 years old with 8 points. In addition, Anupam M Sreekumar and HG Pragnya took seventh and eighth place respectively.
In the women’s under-18 event, S Kanishka with 7.5 points is sixth while Rakshitta Ravi is eighth, with a similar score.
