Apple recently released iOS Stable update 16.2 for all compatible phones. Copy contacts on iOS 16
iOS 16 lets you merge duplicate contacts, saving you from having to manually delete them. It also allows you to link contact cards for the same person in different accounts so that they appear only once in your account. All contacts list in the Contacts application. The update will automatically detect if duplicate contacts exist and then notify you that duplicate contacts have been found.
You can have multiple entries for the same person in Contacts if you have contacts from different sources. Contacts with the same name can come from multiple sources that are linked together and show up as a single system contact to prevent duplicate contacts from showing up in your All Contacts list.
Here is a step-by-step guide to help you manage duplicate contacts on your iOS 16 device:
Remove duplicate contacts
You can merge duplicate contacts if you have multiple contact cards with the same first and last name.
- Open contacts app on your iOS device.
- Then tap Replica found Options are available below My card button.
- Tap specific contacts to review and merge them, or tap merge all to merge all duplicate contacts.
Manually link contacts
You can manually link two items for the same person if they are not automatically linked.
- Open contacts app on your iPhone.
- Tap on one of the contactthen touch Editing Option.
- Click Contacts link button.
- Click link option after selecting another contact to link to.
The names on the individual cards remain the same when you link contacts with different first or last names, but only one name appears on the merge card. You can tap one of the associated cards, then tap the contact’s name on that card. You can then tap the “This Name for Unified Card” option to choose which names will be displayed on the merge card.
Contacts are not merged when they are linked. Changes made to a unified contact are replicated to all source accounts for which updated information exists.
