Regularly cleaning the toaster to remove debris is an essential part of keeping these small appliances in good working order and reducing the risk of fire. Follow these steps to clean the toaster regularly.

Step 1: Prepare the device for cleaning

Unplug the toaster and let it cool before cleaning.

Step 2: Beat the crumbs

Dislodge debris by holding the toaster over a sink or trash can and gently shaking and/or banging the sides of the appliance. If the toaster has a crumb tray, remove it and empty it. Use a pastry brush to sweep debris clinging to the inside of the toaster; If the design of the toaster allows, brush from the top and bottom of the appliance.

Step 3: Clean the outside

Clean the outside of the toaster using a damp microfiber cloth. Pay special attention to levers and knobs; On some models, they can be removed and hand washed in hot, soapy water.

If there is sticky food, splatters, or sticky build-up, you can dip the cloth in a diluted dish soap solution for extra cleaning. A Dobie Pad can also be used to safely clean the outside of the toaster from significant build-up.

Step 4: Dry and reassemble

Dry the outside of the device with a microfiber cloth. Dry the individual parts thoroughly and return them to the appliance and reassemble the toaster.

Step 4: Clean the outside

Clean the outside of the toaster using a damp microfiber cloth. Pay special attention to levers and knobs; On some models, they can be removed and hand washed in hot, soapy water.

Step 5: Deep clean the interior

To remove food from the inside of the toaster, use a damp Dobie Pad to wipe away build-up; Never use steel wool, sponges or abrasive scrapers on the inside of the toaster oven. A paste of baking soda and water can also be used to safely clean sticky food from the inside of a toaster oven.

When cleaning the inside of the toaster, avoid getting the heating elements too wet.

Step 6: Clean the windows

Use a damp sponge or Dobie Pad to apply a mixture of baking soda and water to remove baked goods and food buildup on toaster oven windows. Wipe the mixture off with a damp, clean sponge, then wipe the door with a microfiber cloth.

Step 7: Dry and reassemble
