The 2022 FIFA World Cup ended with a thrilling final as Argentina beat defending champions France on penalties. Winning was amazing, especially for Lionel Messi, who was playing his last game in an Argentina shirt. In addition to all the glory, the winning team will take home a whopping $42 million.
The prize money has varied over the years, with Italy winning $2.2 million in the 1982 FIFA World Cup. In the 1986 sequel, Argentina brought in $2.8 million. while West Germany earned $3.5 million in the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
Another legendary South American team, Brazil won $4 million after their 1994 victory, and the French team under Didier Deschamps took home $6 million in prize money.
Brazil again became the champion in 2002 and this time received double the prize money for their previous win i.e. 8 million dollars. In 2006, Italy again won the FIFA World Cup and this time the prize money was up to 20 million USD.
Spain led by Casillas in 2010, won $30 million with the gold trophy while Germany took away $35 million in 2014.
In the final FIFA World Cup of the 2018 edition, the French team won $38 million.
