On Thursday, Rolando Trevino, 63, was arrested on 17 counts of grave burglary, displaying fake number plates and driving with an invalid license.
Trevino was using a fake number plate on the car that police discovered in surveillance footage at 3900 BF Terry Blvd.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage over a period of time and eventually witnessed Trevino on the cemetery grounds after stealing more copper pots, police said.
Officers found Trevino leaving the Davis-Greenlawn Cemetery and recovered 17 newly stolen bronze urns.
Trevino confessed to stealing bronze vases to sell them as precious metal, and did the act several times over the past few weeks.
“Precious metal theft is on the rise nationally and we’re not immune to these trends. We often see this in catalyst thefts, but Rolando Trevino has shown us new lows. by stealing from the deceased It is heartbreaking to read police reports Where family members visit the graves of their loved ones only to find out they were victims of theft I commend the SET team Our team stopped this and the many hours of labor they put into this investigation,” said Rosenberg Police Chief Jonathan White.
Trevino is currently sitting in the Fort Bend County Jail for the alleged crimes.
