Google Chrome will end support for these Windows computers next year
Google has announced that it will end Chrome support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 in early 2023. According to Google’s support page, Chrome 110 will be the last to support these two older versions of Microsoft Windows. Google Chrome version 110 is expected to release on February 7, 2023. This decision is in line with Microsoft’s previous decision to end support for Windows 7 ESU and Windows 8.1 Extended on May 10. 1 year 2023.
“With the release of Chrome 110 (scheduled for February 7, 2023), we will officially end support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. You’ll need to make sure your device is running Windows 10 or later to continue receiving future Chrome releases,” Google said on its support page.
According to the support page, Chrome will continue to work after version 110 works on versions of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. However, they will not be eligible for any future updates. “If you are currently using Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, we encourage you to switch to a supported version of Windows before that date to ensure you continue to receive the latest security updates and Windows features. Chrome”, the page states.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has announced that it will end support for Windows 7 ESU (Extended Security Update) and Windows 8.1 on January 10, 2023. According to Microsoft’s FAQ page, computers running Windows 8.1 will continue to work, but the company will not provide any technical support for it. The company says Windows 8.1 users will be eligible to upgrade to the newer operating system, but they won’t receive any ESU. “While you can continue to use a PC running Windows†¯ 8.1, without ongoing software and security updates, your PC is at greater risk of viruses and malware. We recommend upgrading to a still supported version of Windows. A new device that can run Windows 11 makes for an easy transition and a great experience,” says Microsoft’s FAQ page.
