RRR came, watched and conquered at the Golden Globes. SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster won Best Original Song for global contagion and virality Naatu Naatu, among Hollywood’s biggest awards. Other nominations in this category are by Taylor Swift Carolina the words Where is Crawdads Sing, Ciao Papa by Guillermo del Toro Pinocchioby Lady Gaga Hold my hand the words Top Gun: Maverick and Lift me up the words Black Panther: Wakanda forever. RRR is also competing in the second category at the Golden Globe – Best Non-English Language Film.
RRR is being represented at the Golden Globes by its director and stars – SS Rajamouli, Jr NTR and Ram Charan, who is accompanied by his wife Upasana Kamineni. Jr NTR and Ram Charan play freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharamaraju in the historical drama, set in British-occupied India in the 1920s. The cast includes Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn as well as British actors Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Olivia Morris.
RRRhas earned over Rs 1,200 crore globally, has won numerous international honors including Best Director for Rajamouli at the New York Film Critics Circle awards. RRR has also submitted for consideration in various Oscar categories and is expected to be nominated in at least one if not more.
The Golden Globes are being held in Los Angeles with comedian Jerrod Carmichael as host. The awards returned to Hollywood mainstream after implementing internal reforms following criticism over alleged racist and sexist voting practices. Last year’s Golden Globes were boycotted by NBC, the broadcaster of the show, and many big Hollywood stars, led by Tom Cruise, returned the three Golden Globes to him.
