Via Huck Allen: Former Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin coach Abel Sanchez predicts he will win next month against WBA middleweight champion Ryota Murata on April 9 on DAZN at Saitama Super Arena, in Saitama City, Japan.
This is a fight where IBF middleweight champion Golovkin will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders. If the 2004 Olympian Golovkin, 39, loses, he will miss the triple fight with Canelo Alvarez.
Showing no signs of bad health despite being substituted by Gennadiy, legendary coach Sanchez believes GGG (41-1-1, 36 KOs) will be too much in his game for the medal winner. 2012 Olympic gold medalist Murata (16-2, 13 KOs) when the two middleweight champions meet next month in Japan.
Sanchez revealed that Murata used to work out at his gym earlier in his career, and that he paired with Gennady on those occasions.
Based on what Sanchez has seen, he feels certain that Golovkin will beat 36-year-old Murata. It won’t be easy, but Gennadiy will get the job done.
Murata hasn’t been in the game since 2019 and there’s sure to be a lot of buzz in his game. While Murata’s punching power will be better than ever, his hand speed, which is never good, will likely be slower, and he will be hit by Gennadiy.
“It’s been a tough fight, but Gennady should accept it,” Abel Sanchez told Fighthype in Golovkin’s fight against Murata on April 9.
“Murata was in our gym at the beginning of his career, and they fought each other. Gennady knows him well. I think it’s going to be a tough fight, but Gennady should win.
“He is Gennady Golovkin. Sanchez said.
Golovkin looked tired and not as agile as he used to be in his last match against Kamil Szeremeta in December 2020.
Strength was as good as ever for GGG, and he quickly maneuvered Szeremeta out of the box for seven rounds. Golovkin could have stopped the dominant Szeremeta earlier in the fight, but it looks like he backed off after knocking him out in the fourth round.

Golovkin’s best option to take care of Murata quickly on April 9 is to go straight at him, push him back, and use his power game to end the competition.
With GGG’s next game against Canelo Alvarez likely on September 17, it’s important that he knocks out Murata in a striking way.
Golovkin should view the match against Murata as a rehearsal for a three-way match against Canelo. The way for Golovkin to beat Canelo was to be his killer earlier in his career, knocking him down, knocking him down and not giving the Mexican star a chance to rest.
In both of Golovkin’s fights with Canelo, we saw a fighter who appeared to be following the blueprints of Floyd Mayweather Jr. to try to beat the Mexican star.
It is the wrong approach for Golovkin as he does not possess the skills of Mayweather and does not dominate with that style like Floyd.
In hindsight, Golovkin should have used his seek-and-destroy style against Canelo and not worry about the occasional counterattack.
Many boxing fans believe that Golovkin was the better boxer during his time with Sanchez, who helped him fight aggressively and dominate. Unfortunately, Golovkin chose to part with Sanchez, as his fights had more energy on them at the time.
Sanchez has spoken extensively about Golovkin, speaking to the media to help promote his matches. That frees Golovkin from the burden of building interest in his matches and he can focus more on his training.
Since Sanchez was replaced, things have not been the same for Golovkin’s Johnathon Banks. Golovkin needs to remember how he used to fight under Sanchez’s supervision and how he returned to form against Murata and Canelo.
