LONDON: Gareth Bale announced his retirement from club and international football at the age of 33 on Monday, ending one of the most illustrious careers in English football history.
Wales‘ the record-holder for appearances and goals has led his country from the wilds of international football to qualify for two European Championships, reaching the semi-finals of Euro 2016 and first fairy World Cup since 1958.
The Los Angeles FC striker, who previously played for Southampton, tottenham and Real Madridappeared in the final match of Wales’ World Cup group stage match against England on November 29th.

“After careful and thoughtful consideration, I announce my immediate retirement from club and national team,” Bale wrote in a message on social media.
“I feel extremely fortunate to have fulfilled my dream of playing the sport I love.
“It has really given me some of the best moments of my life. The highest peak in 17 seasons, that won’t be repeated, no matter what the next chapter is for me.”
