Via Brian Webber: Tyson Fury revealed on Wednesday that he has no plans to attend the Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk II on August 20 because he sees both as “Bastard.”
Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) will be missing out on a perfect public relations opportunity if he doesn’t show up in the box for the Joshua-Usyk 2 clash in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on August 20, as he can help create interest in him facing the winner.
That said, if it’s true that the 33-year-old Fury ONLY wants to fight Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs), that would explain his lack of interest in going to the rematch in person.
If Fury is worried about having immediate pressure on him by fans and media when Usyk raised his hand in victory on August 20, not being present at the show would add to the grief and aggravation of ‘The Gyspy King’.
Fury is a good fighter, but his slow, sluggish style is made to match the crafty, athletic, and more skilled Usyk.
There used to be a moment in Fury’s career when he had the chance to beat a talent like Usyk, but those years are long gone in his rearview mirror.
To be fair, the version of Fury that beat Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 and beat Deontay Wilder in 2018 would have a good chance of beating Usyk, but not the guy we’ve seen since 2020.
Sure, the chances of Joshua winning are pretty low, especially since he recently hired American coach Robert Garcia as his new coach. It’s clear that the game plan is going to be for Joshua explicitly and it’s not going to work.
Robert Garcia, a native of Oxford, California, is a coach who has trained offensive players to lead with their faces and find knocks by defending them.
For Joshua to succeed with Garcia’s game plan, he’ll need endurance and a strong chin. Unfortunately, Joshua lacks those two areas, and adding Robert to his team won’t automatically bring those traits to his game.
“I wouldn’t go to it if it was in Morecambe. Two people fighting,” Fury told talkSPORT.
“The upcoming Oleksandr Usyk is a middleweight, I don’t care at all.”
“I’m terrified of him,” Fury said in response to one of the listeners who said he was scared of Joshua. “He has a granite chin, a heart of gold, and everything a fighter should have.
“I’m shivering in my boots. Let me tell you. Joshua is defeated by Usyk again. Unless he gets a** with Morecambe let me train him, I didn’t see him win the match. He will be defeated again,” Fury said.
Tyson is betraying himself by repeatedly asking Joshua to let him train him for the Usyk rematch. Fury doesn’t want to fight Usyk, and it’s clear why he doesn’t like the clash.
