French Whale: Beluga knocked down in dramatic rescue mission

Belugas occasionally venture south in the fall to feed on ice, but rarely do they travel that far from their homeland. According to France’s Pelagis Observatory, which specializes in marine mammals, the closest beluga population is off the Svalbard archipelago, north of Norway, 3,000 kilometers (1,870 miles) from the Seine.
