France sets record pairing with declaration of intent to beat Italy at Euro 2022
France knocked out the rest of the contenders for this summer’s European women’s crown on Sunday night, thanks to a strong Italian beat.
Les Bleues was back in action not too long ago.
In the country’s Euro 2022 opener, Corinne Diacre’s side made the trip to New York Stadium, to take on the aforementioned Italy.
It’s safe to say, however, that the latter’s attempts to recreate their male rivals en route to European glory just a year ago have not enjoyed the most positive starts.
Instead, a rampant French outfit took a dominant 5-1 win, to soon rise to the top of Group D.
The clash ended all but ended like a rivalry for the first 45 minutes, when Les Bleues, looking almost unstoppable, went ahead with a five-goal advantage. Grace Geyoro proved the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick, either side by further hits from Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Delphine Cascarino.
And, in the process of bringing Italy to the sword, both Geyoro and France, have secured for themselves pieces of Women’s European Championship history:
5/3 – France are the first team in European Women’s Championship history to score five goals before half-time, while Grace Geyoro is the first player in tournament history to score a hat-trick in half one. Rampage. pic.twitter.com/CMhmR9IOUX

And the records didn’t end there, with Sunday’s winners also setting a new national standard:
11 – France beat Italy with the heaviest win in Euro history (5-1). Les Bleues have also won their last 11 matches, equaling the longest winning streak in their history in this game genre. Brilliant. #FRAITA # WEURO2022 pic.twitter.com/ENrdKl7WxY
