restart Forza . sports car racing was one of the stars of Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct on Wednesday afternoon. Xbox and PC racing sims will still be released this year – although, suspiciously, the word “spring” seems to have disappeared from the game’s ETA.

The good news is that it’s still shaping up to be a big improvement in 2017 Forza Motorsport 7. Last year, Turn 10 confirmed three key details, including a major physics overhaul, real-time ray tracing support, and a complete simulation of weather and time changes. We also now know that the sequel will feature more than 500 cars at launch, with 20 environments “built from the ground up for this generation” according to the Director of sports car racing Content Arthur Shek.

One hundred of those cars are new to the franchise, while five race tracks have also never been seen before in a movie. fm game. These include Kyalami in South Africa, as well as Mid Ohio Motor Speedway, a mainstay of the IndyCar and IMSA calendars. Both have extraordinary looks thanks to ray tracing global illumination, physics-based lighting and volumetric fog, and process cloud systems. They’ll also be driving more realistically than ever — tracking surface temperatures fluctuates and the track is now “rubbery” throughout a session.

As you’d expect, the cars themselves didn’t miss out on love. Turn on 10 used spectrophotometers to record the intricacies of each car paint and how they react to light; even the dirt accumulation pattern is unique to every vehicle, based on how air and particles move around the vehicle body. That’s why the recesses around the engine cover of Corvette C8.CHEAP will look dirtier than the rest of the car at the end of a tough race.

Audio development has continued where Forza Horizon 5 left off, with hardware-accelerated reverb that reacts dynamically to a vehicle’s surroundings and support for Dolby Atmos spatial audio. FH5 is a great sound gameand based on the clip provided, the new one sports car racing people will continue that series.

While this informative rendering has certainly given us plenty of footage to watch, equally interesting are the parts of the experience that we haven’t seen yet. At the end of the video, Chris Esaki, Turn 10’s Creative Director, introduced a “new online racing mode” and “a single-player career focused on car building”. Suppose, I think FM7 career is often cited as one of its weak points, we’re particularly curious to see how the offline experience has evolved in the new era of franchises.

We’re also disappointed — and honestly a little surprised, given the length of time in development — that Turn 10 couldn’t provide a specific release date and that Forza . sports car racing seems to have dropped its spring boot window. Six years will have passed since FM7 at the time of its sequel shelf access. It’s a long wait for what used to be a biennial series.

For what it’s worth, The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley tweeted an ETA “before the end of June” when the event ended and we contacted Microsoft to inquire about the event. If the game lands before June 21, then it’s technically still spring.

Below, you can peruse a car model from the full list that Turn 10 has revealed in one blog post. For one, I love all the Group C prototypes, but the focus on modern racing cars is also encouraging.
