Former band member Gautam Chikermane recalls fond memories with late singer KK on Twitter

Fans were left heartbroken and deeply shocked after the news of singer KK’s untimely death spread on social media platforms. Krishnakumar Kunnath passed away on May 31 at the age of 53. Twitter was flooded with messages of condolences from fans. Many people share unforgettable memories of the female singer. However, one particular Twitter thread shared by the author and Vice President of the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), Gautam Chikermane, has captured the hearts of netizens and will bring tears to your eyes.

Chikermane shared a series of tweets detailing his memories with KK during their college days. “He is only 53 years old. He sang his last song. And quietly left. In music he lived, in music he met death. Sadness is for the rest of us, for KK it could be Stairway to Heaven,” reads the first tweet of the thread.

Chikermane indulges in flashbacks as he shares fond memories with the lead singer and drummer of their college band Horizon. “We would attend all the university festivals and win awards (mostly first or second) for our music. IIT Kanpur and Delhi, SRCC and Hindu, we even played pro at Siri Fort Auditorium. We made Rs 5,000 for a night and felt like we were kings! ‘ he wrote.

Chikermane says that KK is the energy of the band. “A few years later, I was in Mumbai and he came to see me. We walked all night on Marine Drive, reminiscing about our youth, our travels, our lives, our wives and children, our careers, our hopes, our dreams — and our music, old music, new music, future music, unsung songs, unplayed notes,” he said. From selling typewriters to having his name permanently engraved in Bollywood, the theme says it all.

According to a report shared by news agency ANI, Chikermane spoke about how shocked he was at the news of KK’s untimely passing.

Netizens loved Chikermane’s amazing Twitter line and shared tributes to the late singer. “KK has an enchanting voice. Every note touches the soul,” commented one Twitter user.

KK collapsed at the Grand Hotel in Kolkata after returning from the show and being taken to a private hospital in the city. He was pronounced dead at Kolkata’s CMRI Hospital at around 10pm. He last performed at Nazrul Mancha in Kolkata.
