Ford provided a V-8 is nicknamed Godzillaand in the near future there may be a more powerful product called Megazilla.
A search through the US Patent and Trademark Office database revealed a trademark application for “Megazilla,” filed by Ford on September 16.
It was specifically filed in the section for barrel engines, which includes both the traditional internal combustion engine as well as the new electric tank engine area, which Ford has explored with Eluminator electric barrel motor Launched at SEMA 2021.
Ford Performance Product Manager Mike Goodwin in 2020 mentioned a new barrel engine derived from the Godzilla V-8, which he calls Megazilla. It’s possible that Ford is currently working on preparatory work for the engine’s launch, although automakers often trademark it simply to protect the name, possibly because competitors use it.
The Godzilla is the 7.3-liter V-8 that debuted in the 2020 Ford Super Duty. It is designed for trucks where longevity tends to be valued more than outright performance and therefore has a block. Cast iron is heavy but sturdy. It makes 430 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a 10-speed automatic in Super Duty and a 6-speed automatic in Ford’s midsize truck.
Will a future version of Megazilla with forced induction appear to dethrone Hellephant 1,000 hp from Mopar? We’ll have to wait and see.
