Mumbai:
A man was arrested by Mumbai police today for making threats against Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family, officials said.
The man, identified as Afzal, made three or four threatening calls to a landline number at the Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai’s Girgaon this morning, officials said.
Officials said the suspect was traced after police identified the phone number he had made calls to.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the caller was mentally unstable.
A case has been registered and the man is currently being questioned by police.
Last month, the Supreme Court ruled that Mukesh Ambani and his family in Mumbai can continue to be provided with security by the central government, dismissing a petition opposing the provision.
The Center reached out to the Supreme Court after the Tripura High Court accepted the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the government’s security protections for Ambanis.
Mr. Ambani and his family were given security by the Maharashtra government based on the centre’s threat perception assessment.
An abandoned car was found with explosives near Mr Ambani’s home last year, shedding light on a major conspiracy involving former police officers.
