For the first time, cancer disappeared in all patients who tried the drug

This gives hope to a world that we will soon be rid of the dreaded disease known as cancer. According to the World Health Organization, nearly 10 million people have died in 2020. This shows that cancer is responsible for nearly 1/6 of all deaths.

The original purpose of this study was to find out if the study drug, TSR-042 (commonly known as dostarlimab), followed by standard chemotherapy and standard surgery was the treatment. effective against advanced cancers.

Participants were given the drug every three weeks, for six months. As originally planned, treatment would be performed with chemotherapy and standard surgery, and patients who had a clinically complete response would go ahead without both.

After at least six months of follow-up, all 12 patients had a complete clinical response without any sign of tumor and also without any adverse effects.

The absence of significant side effects suggests “either they didn’t treat enough patients or, somehow, these cancers were completely different.

Hope to completely cure cancer in the future

Although the results are optimistic, the researchers feel that the treatment procedure used in the study cannot replace current curative treatment.

Patients who have a clinically complete response after chemotherapy and radiation have a better prognosis than those without a clinical complete response, but cancer recurrence occurs in 20 to 30% of patients. This is the case when the cancer is managed non-operatively.

To provide more information on patients who may benefit from immunotherapy, further trials including different age groups, co-existing conditions, and cancer should be conducted. If further trials on a larger scale show similar results, we could be heading towards a cancer-free world.
