GRENCHEN, Switzerland –
Time-tested expert Filippo Ganna broke the cycling time record when he covered 56,792 kilometers in 60 minutes on Saturday.
The Italian stretched a record more than 1.2 km, the biggest jump in seven years.
When asked to describe the pain of the last five minutes, he said, “I’ve lost energy trying to get to 57, but nothing (in my legs).”
He said he is ready for another attempt at another time of the season, when he is fresher.
Ganna took the record from England teammate Dan Bigham, who made his mark at the same Swiss stadium on 19 August.
