Fierce book debate heats up during school board meeting – WSOC TV

CABARRUS COUNTY, NC – A controversial policy policy debate in Cabarrus County schools took place when a board member read aloud pornography from one of the student books.

Board members asked their teenage interns to leave the room before reading a passage from John Greene’s “In Search of Alaska.”

“I don’t feel comfortable leaving children under 17 here,” said board member Keshia Sandidge.

“This book is already in our school system, and I am reading it transparently to you,” said Vice President Laura Blackwell. “And I made it clear that two of (the books) were missing and I was wondering where they were, and I guess they might be under some kid’s mattress.”

This book will serve as an example and start the process for this literary committee to consider,

The chairman of the council said no books have been banned yet.

However, some of the books were withdrawn last spring while the council worked to approve final policy amendments.
