Everything Everywhere All At Once, Pinocchio, RRR scoop up Golden Globes
The Golden Globes returned from the scandal on Tuesday, after taking a year off from broadcasting.
Live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Hollywood’s busiest awards ceremony is packed with actors praising the best TV series and movies.
The night began with host Jerrod Carmichael lashing out at the show’s scandal and past lack of diversity at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
In 2021, a Los Angeles Times investigation revealed HFPA’s no black membersand other allegations include voter influence by the studio. The stars boycotted the show and actor Tom Cruise returned his three awards.
NBC has stopped broadcasting the awards, and last year’s winners were announced on Twitter.
Hollywood’s Golden Globes are trying to make a comeback after a massive lack of diversity scandal, bringing in 21 new voting members, six of whom are Black. But critics say those changes are unlikely to be reflected in this year’s nominations.
Ke Huy Quan’s Everything Anywhere All At Once received the first award of the evening for an actor who plays a supporting role in any feature film.
“For so many years I feared I had nothing left to offer… I’ll never get over what I achieved as a kid. Thankfully, more than 30 years later, two men have thought of me, they remember that kid and they gave me a chance to try again,” he said in his acceptance speech.
Vancouver-born actor Seth Rogen is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Pam & Tommywhile James Cameron’s latest film Avatar feature for best director.
