England players pocket the highest bid at IPL 2023 Auction after winning T20 WC
In the latest IPL 2023 auction, three British cricketers – Sam Curran, Harry Brook and Ben Stokes – emerged as the most expensive players, with England all-rounder Sam Curran being awarded the prize. sell at huge price $18.5 cores for Punjab kings.
British all-rounder – Curran – broke the previous record held by South African all-around athlete Chris Morris, who was sold to the Rajasthan Royals for a price $16.5 crore at IPL auction 2021.
Curran, with a base price of $2 crore, triggered the instant Tata IPL 2023 auction and within 10 seconds his price went up to $9 crore with Mumbai Indians and Bangalore Royal Challenger participated. However, in just a few minutes, his bid price went up to huge numbers. $18.5 crore as Punjab kings.
It is thought that Curran’s performance in England’s T20 World Cup campaign helped make the team world champions. Curran had 13 catches – the second highest – and was rated Player of the Tournament.
So far, the 24-year-old has played 32 games in IPL commercials and picked up 32 goals. He also did 337 runs. He launched IPL in 2019.
In addition to Curran, other players selected for higher prices include England all-around player Ben Stokes, who was sold to Chennai Super Kings for a price. $16.25 crore and pitcher Harry Brook sold to SunRisers Hyderabad for $13.25 cores.
Interestingly, England player Joe Root has a base price of $1 crore, unsold this season. Even the British Tom Banton failed to sell.
Looking at the bidding model, it can be seen that the teams that performed well in the T20 World Cup 2022, were sold at a higher price. However, England players dominated this year’s bid.
