Domestic air passenger traffic cross pre-Covid levels, reach 1.29 crore in Dec 2022

Before the Covid-19 level outbreak (2019), the domestic passenger volume was 1.26 cores. During the shutdown caused by the pandemic and other restrictions, the aviation sector has completely closed and the industry is facing huge losses. Even as restrictions are eased, the sector has gradually come out of the way and now appears to have recovered.

While passenger levels are growing rapidly, airport infrastructure seems to be in need of attention. Aviation analysts and experts say chaos is growing at airports due to overcrowding.

“Airport infrastructure at metropolitan airports like Delhi and Mumbai will be stretched over the next 18 months. Although the two airports are taking measures to meet growing demand, capacity constraints are likely to ease over the next 1-2 quarters. In addition, increased demand and growing fleet size will put additional pressure on the aviation sector at these airports over the next 18 months or so,” said Jagannarayan Padmanabhan, director and practice leader of Crisil Market Intelligence and Analytics, said.

Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru are the three major airports of India which handle the majority of passengers, especially international visitors.

This news also comes amid a new increase in the number of Covid-19 cases globally and many countries are strengthening Covid-19 prevention procedures at airports.

Some countries that have imposed restrictions on travelers from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, etc. are seeing an increase in the number of cases. State of India Karnataka A 7-day quarantine is also mandatory for passengers arriving from these countries.
