Detected more details on sound origin, suggested physical version
After nearly a year of silent treatment, detailed information about Sonic Origin suddenly exploded, though not from SEGA itself. Recent Games reviews in KoreaLater back in Australia. The main art for the game has also been discovered through the PSN Store.
Thank you to our friends at VGCWe now have more details on what the game itself will entail via the initial PSN listing, along with strong hints of a physical version.
Sonic Origins will include two separate modes: Classic Mode and Anniversary Mode. Classic Mode will render the game at its original resolution and will include limited lifecycles, like the original releases from the 90s.
Meanwhile, Anniversary Mode will grant players an unlimited number of lives and display the game in a new 16:9 widescreen. Honestly, we’re a bit disappointed that there doesn’t seem to be an option to mix and match, here; we wanted to play the game in widescreen mode but with everything else intact from the original release. However, just to be clear, SEGA has yet to announce anything officially, so there’s every possibility that this option will be available.
In addition, the game will include missions where the player will be tasked with collecting coins. These can then be used in Museum Mode to unlock new content, challenges, and special levels. Finally, each level will include new opening and ending animations.
For fans of physical media, it looks like Sonic Origins will also receive a fully boxed release. The PSN listing mentions that PS4 disc owners can upgrade to the PS5 version of the game, heavily implying that the Switch boxed release will come with it.
