CWG 2022: Weightlifter Achinta Sheuli wins India’s third gold | News about the 2022 Commonwealth Games
Favorite to win the event, debutant Sheuli gained 313kg (143kg + 170kg) to claim the gold at NEC Hall on Sunday.
From Malaysia Ery Hidayat Muhammad, who gave Sheuli a tough competition, finishing as the second best lifter in the event. He has a jerky record of 303kg (138kg + 165kg).

Canadian Shad Darsigny ranked third with a total lift of 298kg (135kg + 163kg).
Sheuli, a silver medalist at the World Junior Championships, did three lifts – 137kg, 140kg and 143kg – in the recoil.
His 143kg effort helped him break the Congress record and improve his personal best.
Entering a clean and jerky target with a five kg advantage, the Kolkata lifter starts with a 166kg lift, he pulls with ease.

Sheuli then faltered her 170kg attempt only to lift the weight on her third attempt and set a new Olympic record for total lift (313kg).
The Indian had to wait patiently to the end to find the medal he would take home when the Malaysian tried to lift 176kg in his last two attempts but failed.
With the gold medal from Sheuli, the Indian weightlifting team won the sixth medal of the Olympics.
