CWG 2022: Nitu Ghanghas wins women’s 48 kg boxing gold

Nitu Ghanghas, an Indian boxer in the women’s 48 kg class won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She knocked out British rival Demie-Jade Resztan by a unified decision 5- 0.

This is the first medal for India in Boxing at this edition of the Commonwealth Games.

Nitu gained victory over his opponent after attacking her with relentless punches. In the semi-finals, she was also ruthless against Priyanka Dhillon of Canada scoring an RSC (Stop Referee Contest) win.

She plays with an open guard, inviting her opponent to attack using combined straight thrusts and punches for increased effectiveness.

The 21-year-old from Haryana’s Bhiwani district is a two-time junior world champion. With this gold, India won 41 medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Out of 41, 14 Gold, 11 Silver and 16 Bronze medals. Before that, India’s total medal count had most of the medals from weightlifting but now wrestling is leading with 12 medals.
