CWG 2022: Murali Sreeshankar wins historic silver, dedicates it to his father


Murali Sreeshsankar became the first Indian male athlete to win a medal in the long jump at the Commonwealth Games. Sreeshsankar won silver when he made a jump with a distance of 8.08m in the long jump final.

He started with a successful 7.60m jump on his first attempt, improved to 7.84m on his second attempt, and finally made a 8.08m jump on his final attempt.

The 23-year-old was fouled in the second round of the final for passing the group in the second and sixth rounds of the final but managed to cover it up with a massive 8.08m jump in the fifth round and down wing second place on the tally board.

Sreeshankar ultimately lost to Laquan Nairn (8.08m) of the Bahamas for the gold medal. While, Jovan van Vuuren (8.06) of South Africa won bronze in the final.
