Commonwealth Games 2022: Para power lifter Sudhir seals gold; Create history


As the Commonwealth games concluded on Saturday, India went on to receive some of the first and historic medals in the championship. Indian tennis player Sudhir added another medal to India’s list of firsts as he won gold in the men’s Para heavy lift at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games. with the best weight of 212kg on Thursday.

After several unsuccessful attempts by the Indian boxer to win a medal earlier in the day, skydiver Sudhir took the gold by beating Ikechukwu Obichukwu of Nigeria, who scored 133.6. , down 0.9 points. His final score read a game record 134.5 points for gold.

On the same day, Murali Shankar participated in tally of CWG 2022 winners by winning a silver medal in the long jump. He achieved a distance of up to 8.08 m on his 5th attempt of the long jump. He brought India its second medal in athletics in the Commonwealth games.

Sudhir’s first successful lift with a weight of 208 kg was a piece of cake for the lifter’s power reaching 132.0 points. He then showed some improvement when he lifted 212 kg in the second round to score 134.5 points, however on the last attempt he was unable to lift the 217 kg weight but won the gold with 134.5 points.

The day did not go well for the Indian Para-Powerlifter as none of them were able to win medals in the competition. Manpreet Kaur got off to a good start when he successfully lifted 87 kg in the first round. She scored 88.6 points in that round. She then lifted 88 kg on her second attempt to score 89.6. However, on her last attempt she failed to lift the 90 kg weight and finished in 4th place.

Another powerlifter, Shakina Khatun, could not be shortlisted as the winner because she was unable to lift 90 kg on her first attempt. However, she successfully lifted 90 kg on the second attempt to score 89.6. On her last attempt, she could not lift 90 kg.

Earlier in the day, the Indian Para-Powerlifter was unable to win a medal after her unsuccessful attempts. Manpreet Kaur started with a successful lift of 87kg, scoring 88.6 points on his first attempt. On the second attempt, she lifted 88kg, scoring 89.6 points. On her last attempt, she failed to lift 90kg.

The pair finished just outside the podium positions with a total of 89.6 Kg and 87.5 Kg. Manpreet Kaur and Sakina Khatun of India ranked 4th and 5th respectively.

In addition to the women’s category, Parmjeet Kumar also could not have a good record in the championship. He failed to lift the 165 kg weight on the first attempt. He failed to lift the weight of 165 kg. He couldn’t make a difference in the last attempt and finished the event at the bottom of the table.
