China on Friday announced unspecified sanctions against US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during her visit to Taiwan earlier this week. A statement by China’s foreign ministry on Friday said Ms Pelosi had ignored China’s concerns and resolutely opposed her visit to the self-governing island claimed by Beijing.
Notably, Pelosi is the highest-ranking American official to visit the self-governing island in 25 years. The report said China claims Taiwan as its territory and opposes its dealings with foreign governments.
