CHICAGO (WLS) – Corey Simon could barely believe himself.
“I mean, who got their car stolen twice in three hours,” he asked loudly.
First, a blatant daytime car theft, right from the auto shop. Simon said the incident happened Monday when he brought his 2017 Jaguar SUV in for an oil change.
A dark four-door car sped up, two masked men exiting, then into the bay where Simon’s car had a hood. They closed it, jumped in, and took off.
Simon said: “The guys in the mask went in and just took the car and robbed it.
Simon called the police – they were there within minutes – and showed them the GPS tracking device in the car.
“We found it on the west side of Chicago,” he said.
His Jaguar traveled from Bucktown to the 2600 block of W. Madison in East Garfield Park.
CPD escorted him to his car. Simon took the car back and took it to the local gas station to fill it up, then, “I got out of the car, filled it up with gas, and jumped on the other guy who stole my car and drove away.”
He said within three hours, his car was stolen twice. He said he left it running while filing at the gas station.
“It’ll go by in 60 seconds or less,” he said. “The nozzle is already in the tank, the gas is flying everywhere.”
This time the bus went from the 2300 block of West Fullerton in Bucktown to Douglas Park.
“I contacted the two officers who helped me before and said, ‘you’d never believe this, but my car was stolen.”
Chicago police were able to recover his car again. Simon said there were stolen plates on it by the time they got it back the second time and he was grateful for the quick action by the police.
“Just a life lesson that we all need to be careful with our surroundings and just be smart and diligent,” he said.
As for his friends and family?
“They told me to buy a lottery ticket at this point,” he said. “Luck is on my side, just hope it will be luck this time.”
