CD Projekt Red Announces New Witcher Game, To Be Made In Unreal Engine 5

CD Projekt Red, the studio behind Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has announced that a “sequel in The Witcher franchise” is currently in development.

The studio announced the news on website today, citing that this new Witcher game will “launch a new story for the franchise.” As for who the main character will be, and where it will take place in the CD Projekt Red’s Witcher timeline so far, is unknown. However, the studio has revealed that they are leaving REDengine, the in-house engine that the studio used to develop Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3, to develop this new Witcher game on Unreal Engine 5.

“This is an exciting moment as we move from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, beginning a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games,” the studio said in a statement. “It includes not only licensing, but also technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant. We’ll be working closely with that. developers of Epic Games whose primary goal is to help tailor the engine for the open-world experience.

At this time, no further details about this game – such as a development timeframe or release date – are available.

CD Projekt Red says REDengine will still be used to develop the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion.

This news came out a few years later studio says the first three Witcher games are a complete trilogy and it couldn’t name the next game “The Witcher 4.” It’s revealed that more games in the Witcher universe will happen, so unless something changes, this new Witcher game probably won’t be titled The Witcher 4.
