Canelo can win rematch Bivol says Shawn Porter

Via Jim Calfa: Shawn Porter thinks Canelo Alvarez will beat WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol in their rematch next year.

Porter said that he felt that Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) entered the fight against undefeated Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) focused on trying to score a knockout.

That is to say, Canelo entered the war with only one plan-A and no backup plan when that didn’t work out. What ended up happening was that Bivol took down Canelo with his boxing prowess and took advantage of the Mexican star as he let off steam after three rounds.

Canelo appears to be trying to change his fighting style ahead of his September 17 fight with Gennadiy Golovkin in Las Vegas.

What we can see is Canelo using Golovkin as a practice opponent to try different things on him which he will use later against Bivol in May 2023.

Movement and combat coordination are two areas of Canelo’s game that will likely improve when he faces Golovkin.

If Canelo can significantly improve these two areas, he will have a great chance to beat Bivol. Thus, Canelo hardly lost to Bivol with the scores 115-113, 115-113 and 115-113.

“He can win the rematch,” Shawn Porter said to Against TV Hub about Canelo Alvarez’s ability to beat Dmitry Bivol in their rematch in 2023.

“I just feel him [Canelo] was a horse and a donkey in the first war. There is no plan-A, plan B or plan-C. It’s nothing more than a seek & destroy mentality that he can fight for for a long period of time,” said Porter.

It’s hard for Canelo to keep his mind on the immediate mission against Golovkin because he’s clearly still upset with what Bivol did to him. Golovkin is too good a boxer for Canelo to beat if he’s not 100% focused.

“I think the war [against Bivol] gave him experience for him to understand that’s not how you beat Bivol,” said Porter. “I think Canelo was experienced enough and smart enough to figure that out.

“I think going up and down with weight is too much for Canelo. If Canelo is going to fight at 175, he needs to give his body time to adapt to the 175 pounds,” says Porter.
