Canelo Alvarez perfects his defense & punch combo for the Golovkin trio
Via Sam Volz: Canelo Alvarez looked sharp, displaying impeccable defensive skills and coordinated punching while training with coach Eddy Reynoso on Friday.
Superstar Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) is about two weeks away from his three-week fight with Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17, and he looks in good shape for the match.
More importantly, former four-time world champion Canelo looks motivated for the fight with GGG. This is a big departure from the way Canelo looked during the build-up for his final bout against WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol last May.
Canelo looks like a convict while training for his fight with Bivol, and you can tell he knows what’s in store for him.
“Are you affected by the fact that Canelo is the bigger man? I don’t know if it’s Mexican beef or burgers, or Whoppers. I do not know what it is. I don’t know,” said Teddy Atlas The strugglespoke with Gennadiy Golovkin’s coach Johnathon Banks about the 40-year-old boxer’s triple match against Canelo Alvarez.
“He [Canelo] claimed that this fight would go to 168. Golovkin has spent his entire career clearly one of the greatest middleweight boxers of all time. Now, he has to go up to 168.
“How does that play into your preparation for the fight where you’re no longer an adult?” Atlas said.
“It didn’t affect the preparation much,” says Banks. “It’s not like 68 would make him [Canelo] it’s a much stronger puncher. “
“Does it play the way he [Canelo] a physically different person than he was before? He’s bigger and stronger, let’s face it. Canelo has muscles that he never had before. Again, I don’t know where they come from, but there they are.
“Now, does that slightly change your strategy along the lines of what we talked about, that he’s stronger now?” Atlas said.
“It doesn’t change it because no matter how much stronger he is, G [Golovkin] always physically strong in his own right. So the physical prowess that G has really goes nowhere.
“Golovkin had his career at 160. So for me personally, no, it wouldn’t change anything,” Banks said.
